The Left Unity has recorded a resounding victory in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) Election 2025, sweeping all four key posts and reaffirming its dominance in campus politics. The results reflect a strong student mandate in favour of the Left panel, which defeated its main rival, the ABVP, across the board.
Aditi Mishra, representing the Left alliance, has been elected President with 1,861 votes, defeating Vikas Patel of the ABVP, who received 1,447 votes.
For the Vice President post, K. Gopika registered a commanding win with 2,966 votes, while ABVP’s Tanya Kumari secured 1,730 votes.
In one of the most closely contested battles, Sunil Yadav clinched the General Secretary post with 1,915 votes, narrowly edging past Rajeshwar Kant Dubey of the ABVP, who got 1,841 votes.
Rounding off the clean sweep, Danish Ali from the Left alliance secured the Joint Secretary post with 1,991 votes, defeating Anuj Damara of the ABVP, who garnered 1,762 votes.
Left’s K Gopika takes lead in vice-president race
In the ongoing counting for the JNU Students’ Union vice-president post, Left alliance candidate K Gopika has emerged ahead with 2,774 votes so far. Her nearest competitor, ABVP’s Tanya Kumari, follows with 1,657 votes, as counting continues for the remaining ballots.
Left’s Aditi Mishra Leads Presidential Race
Aditi Mishra from the Left panel leads comfortably for the president’s post with 1,747 votes, leaving behind ABVP’s Vikas Patel, who has 1,385 votes, and PSA’s Shinde Vijayalakshmi with 1,144 votes. Aditi currently enjoys a lead of 362 votes, with 127 NOTA and 34 blank ballots reported.
K. Gopika Strengthens Left’s Hold for Vice-President
For the vice-president’s seat, K. Gopika from the Left alliance maintains a massive edge with 2,774 votes, ahead of ABVP’s Tanya Kumari, who stands at 1,657 votes. The lead of 1,117 votes indicates a decisive advantage for the Left bloc.
Nail-Biting Contest for General Secretary
The general secretary race remains the tightest, with Sunil Yadav (Left) narrowly ahead of ABVP’s Rajeshwar Kant Dubey by just 38 votes. Sunil has received 1,788 votes, while Dubey follows closely at 1,750.
Danish Ali Keeps Left Momentum in Joint Secretary Race
In the joint secretary contest, Danish Ali (Left) continues the alliance’s winning streak with 1,854 votes, leading ABVP’s Anuj Damara at 1,693 votes, marking a margin of 161 votes. The final results will be announced shortly.

Meanwhile, in a landmark moment for campus politics, Komal Devi of the Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students’ Association (BAPSA) wins the School of Social Sciences (SSS) councillor seat in the JNUSU Election 2025, breaking an 11-year drought for the organization.
Her victory marks a major comeback for BAPSA, which has long been advocating for social justice and representation of marginalized communities within the university. The party’s resurgence reflects shifting dynamics in student politics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, traditionally dominated by the Left and ABVP.
Left Maintains Lead in Top Posts
Left Unity continues to dominate the JNUSU Election 2025, with its candidates Aditi Mishra and K. Gopika leading for the posts of President and Vice President respectively. The alliance appears strong in the top-tier positions as counting progresses.
ABVP Ahead in Secretary Posts
Meanwhile, ABVP candidates Rajeshwar Kant Dubey and Anuj Damara are ahead for the positions of General Secretary and Joint Secretary. The close margins suggest an intense face-off between Left and ABVP for control of the central panel.

ABVP Strikes Back:
In the general secretary race, ABVP’s Rajeshwar Kant Dubey leads with 1,496 votes, just above Sunil Yadav (Left) with 1,367. Similarly, ABVP’s Anuj Damara is narrowly ahead in the joint secretary category with 1,494 votes, followed closely by Danish Ali (Left) with 1,447.
Left Unity's Aditi Mishra Leads in Presidential Race
According to representatives from the All India Students' Association who were at the counting booths, Left Unity's Aditi Mishra has continued to keep the lead in the presidential race with 4,340 votes counted so far. Mishra has so far received 1,375 votes, followed by ABVP's Vikas Patel with 1,192 and Progressive Students' Association's Shinde Vijayalakshmi with 915, as per the PTI report.
The president’s post is being contested by seven candidates, including NSUI’s Vikash Bishnoi, BAPSA’s Raj Ratan Rajoria, DISHA’s Shirshava Indu and independent candidate Angad Singh.
Gopika Babu Ahead for Vice-President Post
In the vice-president contest, Left Unity candidate K. Gopika Babu was leading with 2,146 votes, while ABVP’s Tanya Kumari followed with 1,437. NSUI’s Shaikh Shahnawaz Alam was also a contender for the post.
Neck-and-Neck Battle for Secretary Posts
The contests for general secretary and joint secretary are also extremely close. For the general secretary, ABVP’s Rajeshwar Kant Dubey has managed to get ahead with 1,496 votes, just ahead of Left Unity's Sunil Yadav who is at 1,367.
The joint secretary race also sees a similar trend, with ABVP's Anuj Damara leading for now with 1,494 votes, Left's Danish Ali second with 1,447 votes.

This year's election once again highlights the recurring ideological rivalry between Left Unity, an alliance of the All India Students' Association, Students' Federation of India and Democratic Students' Federation and the right-wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. With the counting nearing its final stretch, all eyes are on whether the Left alliance will retain its dominance on the JNU campus or ABVP will script an upset in the 2025 edition of the university's most-awaited student polls.
