Fourteen candidates have got the perfect score in the engineering entrance exam JEE-Main, results of which were announced on Monday, according to the National Testing Agency (NTA). Maximum candidates with the top score in the first edition of the exam are from Telangana (four) followed by Andhra Pradesh (three).

Over 8.7 lakh candidates had registered for the exam while 7.69 lakh had appeared. The examination was conducted at 588 examination centres in 407 cities, including 17 cities outside India.

In Maharashtra, the top scorer, Adwai Krishna, is from Nagpur. He scored 99.99 percentile and sees JEE-Mains as just the starting point to his goal of reaching IIT-Bombay. Mumbai topper Ved Danait scored 99.995 percentile. A resident of Vile Parle, Ved attended Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal’s Chatrabhuj Narsee Memorial School.

Adwai said he prepared himself through the schedule provided by his institute that included seven hours of lectures and assignments. He focused on not paying attention to things that didn’t concern him. “I devoted my time and energy to studies, and also found time to play sports, spend time with my family so as to keep everything balanced and stay relaxed,” said Adwai, adding that his complete focus is now on JEE Advanced.

Ved said he had been preparing for the past two years, with focus on JEE Advanced, with only the last few months dedicated to JEE Mains. Ved plans to pursue computer Science from one of the top IITs.

With a stronger grip in Physics than Chemistry and Mathematics, he said he tried his best to devote equal time to all the three subjects. “I knew I would do well as I was quite well prepared. But it mainly depends on how those three hours of your paper go,” Ved said.
