IIT Delhi Placement Season Faces Uncertainty: Higher Number Of Unplaced Students Predicted

As the placement season progresses at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), the data provided by Dheeraj Singh, an IIT Kanpur alumnus, on the basis of the RTI filed by him reveals that placements may not be a fruitful process this year. 

According to Singh, the IITs might record a higher number of unplaced students as compared to the previous years. He has crunched these numbers from the RTI data that he received.

However, upon Free Press Journal’s email to the institute confirming the numbers, IIT Delhi got back stating that this might not be the case this year.

In 2024, a total of 2,000 students registered for placement opportunities. Out of these, 1,000 students secured placements in Phase 1, while an additional 36 students were placed in Phase 2, bringing the total placed count to 1,036. However, 964 students still remain unplaced as of the latest data. This means that approximately 45.1% students might remain unplaced this year.

In 2023, 1270 students were placed while a total of 1417 job offers were received (267 Pre-Placement Offers were received by students and 136 students got multiple jobs) by the institute including DMS and OCS placements. Approximately 83.82% students who availed OCS/DMS services got placed.
