FPJ Impact: TISS Finally Releases Delayed First-Semester Results After Weeks Of Delay

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai has finally declared the first-semester results of schools that were still pending. The Free Press Journal had reported in its Thursday edition that the results, originally due on January 6, were still not announced as of February 26. Following the report, the institute began releasing the results on Thursday, and by Friday, all results had been declared, informed a senior TISS official.

Initially, the results for the School of Social Work and the School of Management and Labour Studies were expected by January 31 after an extension, but the administration had remained silent on the delay. The prolonged uncertainty had left students anxious and frustrated, particularly as the second semester had already begun and fee payment deadlines were approaching.

The delay had sparked widespread concern among students, who had voiced their grievances through various channels, including a formal email from the Progressive Students Forum (PSF) to the administration. “This delay is causing anxiety among students, especially as the second semester has begun and fee payment deadlines are approaching,” the PSF had written, urging authorities to expedite the release of results and provide an explanation.

Students had also highlighted the academic challenges caused by the delay. “Our courses are evaluated on the basis of assignments, which carry a 50% weightage, and the semester exam carries the rest 50% weightage. There is a six-credit fieldwork as well. Not even after more than a month of the second semester starting, how would we understand where we need to improve to get better grades if the results have not been announced?” a first-year Social Work student had asked.

With all results now declared following media pressure, students have finally received the clarity they had long demanded. “Finally we can access our results and we know exactly where we need to put some extra yards to improve and get better marks in the coming semesters,” a student said, adding, “hopefully this delay was limited to first semester and going forward, the administration will release the results as per the academic calendar.”
