No Fare Hike For Short Journeys Up to 500 Km, Slight Increase For Longer Travel In Trains; Old Tickets Still Valid

New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has announced a new fare system for passenger trains. These changes will start from July 1, 2025. The new fare chart has been released by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA).

No Increase for Ordinary Class up to 500 km

If you are travelling in ordinary non-AC class and your journey is up to 500 kilometres, you don’t have to pay anything extra. The fare will remain the same for these short-distance trips.

Small Increase for Longer Journeys

For trips beyond 500 km in second class (non-AC), fares will go up slightly:

- Rs 5 more for 501–1,500 km

- Rs 10 more for 1,501–2,500 km

- Rs 15 more for 2,501–3,000 km

In sleeper and first-class coaches of non-suburban trains, the fare will increase by 0.5 paisa per kilometre.

Mail and Express Trains Fare Hike

In Mail and Express trains (non-AC), the fare for second class, sleeper class, and first class will increase by 1 paisa per kilometre.

AC Class Fare Changes

In AC classes like Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, AC First, Executive Class, and Anubhuti Class, the fare will increase by 2 paisa per kilometre.

Premium Trains Included

These fare changes will also apply to premium trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Vande Bharat, Duronto, Tejas, and others.

No Change in Suburban or Season Tickets

Fares for suburban tickets and season tickets (both suburban and non-suburban) will not change.

Other Charges Stay the Same

Reservation fees, superfast charges, and other extra charges will remain unchanged. GST will continue as per current rules. Fare rounding-off rules will also stay the same.

Old Tickets Still Valid

If you booked a ticket before July 1, you don’t need to pay the difference. The old fare will still be valid.

Railways to Update Systems

Railways has asked all zones to update ticketing systems and fare boards at stations to ensure a smooth switch to the new fare system.
