Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class granted bail to Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh on Monday in connection with a case related to the gherao of the Vidhan Sabha by the Youth Congress in 2021.
The bail was granted by Judicial Magistrate First Class Yathagat Yagnik after Jaivardhan Singh appeared before the court.
Advocate Ajay Gupta, who represented Jaivardhan Singh in the case, stated, "Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh appeared in court, which then granted him bail."
The case dates back to 2021 when the Youth Congress had staged a protest outside the Vidhan Sabha. Jaivardhan Singh was among the leaders who participated in the demonstration.
Following the protest, an FIR was lodged against several Congress leaders, including national Youth Congress president Srinivas BV, state Youth Congress president Vikrant Bhuriya, MLAs Jaivardhan Singh and Kunal Chaudhary, along with another individual.
The FIR was registered under Sections 188 and 147 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after the protestors attempted to jump over the police barricades that had been put up to control the demonstration. To disperse the crowd, the police resorted to a cane charge, during which many Congress workers sustained injuries.
