'Too Early To Call It A Gold Mine,' GSI Director Clears Air On Viral Videos Claiming 3.3 Lakh Tonnes Gold Found In MP's Jabalpur
The study focused on areas around Bela and Binaika villages, where initial data suggests a possible link to gold.

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): After videos claiming massive gold reserves found beneath Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur, Geological Survey of India (GSI) Director-General Asit Saha has confirmed the presence. He said that preliminary tests in Sihora tehsil, Jabalpur district, show signs of gold particles and metallic presence on Thursday.
The study focused on areas around Bela and Binaika villages, where initial data suggests a possible link to gold.
Few news reports have also shared videos claiming that lakhs of tonnes of gold have been found in Jabalpur are doing the rounds on social media, sparking curiosity and speculation among users.
The clips, widely shared across platforms, show visuals of heavy machinery digging the ground and people discussing an alleged treasure discovery by the geologists.
Meanwhile, Saha emphasised that these findings are at a very early stage. Though signs of gold appear promising, it is too soon to declare the existence of a substantial deposit or mine.
Detailed exploration and testing must continue to determine how much gold might be present and in which locations.
GSI currently has 40 active mineral exploration projects across Madhya Pradesh, with Sihora included among them. The agency’s work in Jabalpur is part of this broader initiative.

Saha shared these insights during a national workshop held in Jabalpur on “Critical Minerals – Exploration and Exploitation,” attended by senior geologists from across the country to discuss future strategies.
His statement makes one thing clear: while there is hope of gold in the area, claiming the existence of a gold reserve or mine at this point would be scientifically premature.
Jabalpur earlier
Once known for its rich mineral resources and thriving mining industry, Jabalpur has come a long way. Located in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, this city was once synonymous with limestone quarries and defense establishments.
