Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The construction of a high-tech gate at Hamidia Hospital is being touted as a step forward in ensuring safety of doctors and paramedical staff. The initiative follows the chilling rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, sparking concern over the security of healthcare professionals.
However, the Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) has raised serious doubt about the hospital administration’s commitment to security. Dr Kuldeep Gupta, president of JUDA, said that despite promises, the installation of 400 CCTVs across the GMC campus remains incomplete.

He questioned how the administration could focus on a high-tech gate when basic security infrastructure is missing. “Safety and security of doctors are paramount, but when 400 CCTVs are yet to be installed, how can we trust that a high-tech gate will be set up. Nothing has been done so far forsafety and security of doctors on campus where there are three hospitals–Hamidia, Sultania and Kamla Nehru—in addition to GMC.
The administration’s inaction raises serious concern about their real commitment to staff safety,” Gupta said. In response, GMC Dean Dr Kavita N. Singh said that the new gate will be equipped with CCTVs and emphasised that managing the rush on the campus is also a key factor in these efforts. She reassured that safety and security of all medical staff remain top priority.
