Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A 40-year-old truck driver died in a tyre blast on the Jabalpur-Nagpur Highway on Tuesday. He was filling air in the tyre when it suddenly exploded, leading to his death on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Vyas Patel, a resident of Tilwara. He originally hails from Bihar.
The accident was reported at Ambedkar Chowk in the Tilwara police station area. The Tilwara police are investigating the matter.
The accident took place on the busy Jabalpur-Nagpur Highway on Tuesday morning, when Patel was driving his tractor to fulfil a consignment. As he passed via the Jabalpur-Nagpur Highway, he experienced some difficulty in driving. He alighted to check the tractor when he noticed a deflated tyre. He took out a pump and started filling the air when the tyre suddenly burst. Patel succumbed to the burns and died on the spot.
Commuters informed police, and a team of cops reached the spot. They handed over the body to his family and started a probe.
Police suspect that the rising temperature must have led to the tyre blast. During summers, increased temperature in the atmosphere causes air pressure in the tyre to rise significantly, and that further leads to over-inflation and, consequently, a blowout.
