Bhopal/Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the the entry gate situated on Morena route of Gwalior to be named as 'Data Bandi Chhod Dwar' owing to the proud history scripted by the Sikhs in the Gwalior region.
Notably, Mughal emperor Jehangir had imprisoned the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind, at Gwalior Fort. Along with him, 52 kings from different kingdoms were also held captive. According to historical accounts, Jehangir saw a Sufi Fakir in his dream, who instructed him to release Guru Hargobind immediately.
According to historians, when Jehangir ordered Guru Hargobind’s release, the Guru insisted that the 52 imprisoned kings should also be freed. Honoring his request, the emperor allowed their release. In memory of this event, the Gurudwara at Gwalior Fort is known as' Data Bandi Chhod Gurudwara.'
