Ashoknagar (Madhya Pradesh): A tragic accident took place on Monday in the Triveni river of Ashoknagar, where two children drowned while collecting water for the Kavad Yatra.
The incident unfolded in Tooman village of the district. The deceased has been identified as Saurabh Lodhi (16) and Aarushi Sahu (9).

On the second Monday of Sawan, both the children had come with their family to fill holy water from the confluence of Triveni river. At around 12 noon, both the children suddenly drowned in the river. People present on the spot tried to save them.
Both were taken out with the help of villagers. As soon as the information of the incident was received, Kachnar police station in-charge Poonam Sailor reached the spot. The children were immediately taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared them dead. According to the local people, the river was very deep and it took a lot of time to take the children out.
After the incident, Ashoknagar SDM Brij Bihari Lal Srivastava, Tehsildar Shambhu Meena and the SDRF team reached the spot. The local people told that there is a crowd of people carrying Kavad here on Monday. They have demanded regular deployment of SDRF, so that such accidents can be prevented.
