Madhya Pradesh: Four Die Of Diarrhoea, 10 Critical In Sheopur

Sheopur (Madhya Pradesh): Four people, including three children, died due to diarrhoea and vomiting in a tribal village in Sheopur district in the last 10 days. 10 others are in critical condition.

Medical teams, on Thursday, checked 150 houses and found 64 people ill, out of which 10 were admitted to the hospital in serious condition.

The latest death was reported on Thursday night when a 2-year-old boy named Dev died in the Sahariya tribal settlement of Karahal tehsil, around 56 km from the district headquarters. Health officials have begun door-to-door screening in Karahal’s Sahrana village after the outbreak.

Sheopur collector, Arpit Verma, has sent a proposal to suspend Karahal Block Medical Officer (BMO) Suresh Soni for not taking timely preventive action. Villagers also accused the BMO of ignoring their complaints and failing to conduct proper check-ups.

After the fourth death, health, women and child development, and panchayat officials became active. Water samples were collected for testing, and cleanliness drives were carried out in the village and surrounding areas.

The village, Ugna Basti, has around 100 houses. Villagers said several people fell ill soon after the rains. On July 16, a girl named Mangla died after being sent back home by health staff. On July 18, Abhiraj, a young boy, also died due to diarrhoea. On July 20, Vishwas Adivasi collapsed and died after suffering from the same symptoms.

Authorities are now monitoring the situation closely and taking steps to stop the illness from spreading further.
