Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh): As many as 285 young men and women have tied the knot at a mass wedding ceremony under Mukhya Mantri Kanya Vivah Yojna in Paraswada area of the city.
The bridegroom’s party reached the wedding venue in a procession that passed through the middle of the city. The residents also blessed the bridegrooms sitting on horse-drawn carriages. Also, there were fireworks.
The bridegroom’s party reached the students’ hostel amid drumbeats. There were garlands, weighing over 350 kg, for 285 men and women who tied the knot. Big coolers were kept to provide relief from heat.

Out of 285 men and women, 174 belonged to ST category, 105 to other backward classes, four to the SC community and one couple to the general category.
Education and transport minister, Rao Uday Pratap Singh, was present at the function to bless the newlyweds.
He further said Mukhya Mantri Kanya Vivah Yojna and Kanya Nikah Yojna are such that public representatives and officers welcome the bridegroom’s party to the wedding venue.
Singh, who is also the in charge minister of the district, said arrangements for air ambulance had been made in every district.
Local legislator Madhu Bhagat was also present at the wedding ceremony to bless the newlyweds.
