According to information, the leak was triggered when water entered the chemical store, causing chlorine gas to escape. Although the quantity was not large, fire brigades sprayed water to prevent any fire risk - which, in turn, spread the gas further.
District Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh has ordered the CMHO, municipal corporation, and industries department to investigate the incident together and submit a report within two days. SDM Srivastava said that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
