Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): To celebrate the birthday of a 19-year-old girl, her family and nine friends had gone to Aabchand Caves in Sagar, on Saturday, but they got trapped in Gaderi river water, said officials, on Sunday. Among them six were girls and three were boys.

A joint team comprising Sagar police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Home Guard personnel rescued nine people who were trapped in strong currents in the Gaderi river near the Aabchand Cave area.

The police team trekked about 4 kms through dense forests and difficult terrain to reach the site, while SDRF personnel entered the swift-flowing river to bring everyone to safety.

To reach Aabchand Cave is extremely difficult. After assessing the situation, police officials devised a strategy to reach the location via an alternative route starting from Aabchand village.

With the assistance of local villagers and the aid of GPS navigation and searchlights, the team successfully reached the rescue site.

SDRF takes charge amidst strong currents

The six girls and boys went to cut the cake in an island situated in between the river. Whereas two of them crossed the river and reached the other side of the river.

Whereas one of girl fearing the water remained on the bank of the river.

Upon reaching the rescue site, the situation was extremely challenging. The river's current was swift, and reaching the people surrounded by water posed a significant risk.

The SDRF team saved all of them and handed to them to their families respectively.
