Bhopal: Upgraded signal system installed at Bhirangi and Palasner railway stations

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Upgrading the signalling system, Indian Railways’ Bhopal division has installed intermediate block systems (IBS) so as to enhance train handling capacity.

State-of-the-art electronic interlocking system of microlock make with provision of dual Visual Display Unit (VDU) facility has been commissioned at Bhirangi and Palasner stations on Friday. VDU is Electronic Interlocking System, according to railway officials.

It will increase the speed capability of the track. In view of increasing train traffic, the existing relay-based systems have been upgraded to microprocessor-based electronic interlocking systems.

In this work, 32 routes, 14 point machines, 12 signals and 5 shunt signals have been provided at Bhirangi station and 9 routes, 2 point machines and 8 signals have been provided at Palasner station.

During this work, C-Class station Masangaon in Bhirangi-Palasner section has also been successfully converted into intermediate block systems (IBS).

In order to achieve redundancy, provision of dual detection has been made which is provided between Bhirangi to IBS and IBS to Palasner station. The provision of IBS will increase the speed of the train along with increase in the sectional capacity, thereby saving train travel time in the section.

“The initiatives will help in more trains travelling through a particular section at a given period and hence passenger services and timely running of trains could be ensured to a great extent,” the railway official said.
