Bhopal: Police keep tight tab on security for ongoing local bodies elections

A total of 13,148 polling stations have been made out of which, 3296 polling stations are sensitive. About 79,000 staff and officers have been deployed in the polling duty across the state.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The police are on high alert to control any untoward situation during polling in the state.

According to an official, the Congress and the BJP had raised issues against each other for luring voters on the eve of polling for urban bodies in the state. Following which, police have made a huge arrangements to conduct free and fair elections in 11 municipal corporations, 36 municipalities and 86 Nagar Parishads in 44 districts.

A total of 13,148 polling stations have been made out of which, 3296 polling stations are sensitive. About 79,000 staff and officers have been deployed in the polling duty across the state. About 27,000 police forces have been deployed in these areas.

In Bhopal, the BJP workers in ward no-43 were allegedly identified by the Congress leaders. It is alleged that they were distributing wall clocks to the voters and asking them to vote in favour of the BJP candidate.

The Congress supporters allegedly thrashed the BJP supporters. After which the BJP leaders reached the MP Nagar police station and filed a case. In the meantime, more BJP leaders reached the police station and raised slogans against the Congress leaders. They demanded to take action against them.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Singh Bhadoria told media that the police arrested two accused who had beaten the BJP supporters and also seized the vehicle in which the clocks were kept.
