Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Police Headquarters (PHQ) on Tuesday issued a recruitment notification for 697 constable posts for the police band.
The move comes after a prolonged delay in implementing the government’s plan to set up police bands across all districts. The recruitment is expected to give momentum to the long-pending proposal announced in 2023.
Earlier, on Feb 14 this year, Free Press had prominently reported that even more than two years after Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s announcement to set up police bands in every district, the bands remained only on paper.
The announcement was made during his visit to the Police Headquarters a few days after he was sworn in as Chief Minister in December 2023.
According to the notification, 679 posts are reserved specially for male candidates. Interested and eligible candidates can apply from April 5 to 19 through the MP Online portal.
Cabinet approval took one year
It took a full year for the Cabinet to approve the Chief Minister’s announcement. Approval was granted on Jan 15, 2025. The home department, on Feb 10, 2025, wrote to the PHQ granting sanction for the creation of 932 new posts for police bands in districts.
