Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal police on Thursday busted a gang who duped videographers by luring them into fake wedding bookings. The gang would call the videographer and their team for coverage of the wedding reception and then would steal their valuables including cameras and other devices.
Police have arrested four members of the gang and seized stolen goods worth ₹10 lakh, including laptops, drones, and video cameras.
ACP Rakesh Singh Baghel said photographer, Aniket Kumar Choudhary, a resident of Chhatarpur, filed a complaint with Manglawara police alleging that he was cheated by a person named Anurag Karma, who hired him for a wedding photography event.
Anurag Karma paid ₹5,000 as advance and promised to pay the remaining ₹42,000 after the wedding. Aniket and his team arrived from Chhatarpur on June 1 and were lodged at a hotel.
They were taken to a hotel for dinner near Nadra Bus stand and in the meanwhile Anurag Karma and his accomplice disappeared with their equipment worth approximately ₹7 lakhs.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Based on technical evidence, mobile phone CDRs, and ground information, police arrested four persons, including a minor on Thursday. The accused were also found to be involved in a similar case registered at the Ashok Garden police station, where they had stolen valuables worth approximately ₹3 lakh.
The accused include Rajaram Thakur, (20) a resident of Raisen, Abhayram Uikey (26), Bhagwat Thakur (24) residents of Sagar and a minor.
