Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Mountaineer Bhawna Dehariya has been named in the Vikram Award 2023 list for her historic Mount Everest (8,848 meters) summit. With this recognition, she became the first woman from Madhya Pradesh to be selected for the Vikram Award in the adventure sports category.
The Madhya Pradesh government annually honors outstanding athletes, coaches, and sports contributors with state-level awards, including the Vikram, Eklavya, Vishwamitra, Lifetime Achievement, and Prabhash Joshi Awards.
The Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare (DSYW), Government of Madhya Pradesh, has announced the list of awardees for Vikram Award 2023. The official award ceremony is yet to take place.
Bhawna makes Chhindwara proud
Hailing from Chhindwara, Bhawna successfully scaled Mount Everest in 2019, marking a significant milestone in her career. She has also conquered multiple peaks across continents, inspiring young athletes, especially women, to pursue adventure sports.
As the brand ambassador of the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign, Bhawna has been a strong advocate for empowering girls to dream big and challenge barriers in sports and adventure.

Bhawna said, "Being named in the Vikram Award list for my Mount Everest summit is a moment of immense pride.
