In the world of humans, animals are equally important for the goodness of nature. World Animal Day, observed annually on October 4, is an international day of action for animal rights and welfare. It is also regarded as World Animal Welfare Day.

It focuses on the importance of animal lives while hinting at how essential they are in our ecosystem. It is an initiative taken to spread awareness about animals and their wellbeing by looking into their care, love and protection.

The mission of World Animal Day is to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe.

The day attempts to reflect on the beautiful saying, “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” —Anatole France

The day was originally celebrated as the feast of Francis of Assisi, who was a patron saint of ecology. He was highly regarded for his kindness towards animals. It was only in the year 1931, when World Animal Day was globalized at a conference in Florence.

Animal foundations and welfare programmes at international level collaborate together on this day. They conduct events for the public in aim of spreading awareness about the importance of animals in our life and eco-chain.
