Tensions between India and Pakistan are reaching dangerous levels, with both nations engaging in hostile actions. Pakistan continues attacking India using drone missiles targeting residential locations. Amid the rising friction, the United States has stepped in, urging both countries to exercise restraint.
During a press briefing on Friday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the escalating conflict, stating, "This is something that the Secretary of State and now our NSA as well, Marco Rubio, has been involved in. The President has expressed that he wants this to de-escalate as quickly as possible."
Leavitt acknowledged the long-standing tensions between the two nations, adding, "He understands these two countries have been at odds with one another for decades, long before President Trump was here at the Oval Office. However, he has good relations with the leaders of both countries."
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts, holding separate calls with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday. Rubio stressed the importance of de-escalation and pressed Pakistan to take "concrete steps" to cease support for terrorist groups.
According to reports, EAM S Jaishanke conveyed to Rubio that India would "counter any attempts by Pakistan to escalate the situation."
The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with concerns growing over a potential military confrontation. The US continues to mediate, but with both sides maintaining a hardline stance, the path to peace remains uncertain.
