'Pura Jail Bhag Gaya': Inmate Makes Shocking Claim As Criminals Escape From Karachi Prison After Wall Collapsed Due To Earthquake (VIDEO)

Karachi: At least 200 prisoners escaped from a Malir District Jail, also known as 'Bachcha Jail' in Pakistan's Karachi, following an earthquake in the wee hours of Tuesday, police said.

The inmates broke down doors and locks of their cells and shattered windows after they felt tremors shake the walls of the jail. Reportedly, mild tremors of earthquake were felt 9 to 11 times in Karachi in the last 48 hours, whose intensity was between 2.6 to 3.6 on the Richter scale. Due to these tremors, the outer wall of the jail had weakened.

A video from the spot has emerged. In the video, a man can be heard allegedly asking two inmates if he is breaking the jail and fleeing? The inmate can be heard replying, "Dhai sal se jail mein they." When the man asks the prisoner about the number of inmates who have escaped, he said, "Pura jail bhag gaya." Which roughly translates to, "The entire jail has escaped."

According to the police, of those who escaped the prison, 80 inmates had been recaptured and searches were ongoing for more than 130 still at large. One prisoner was killed in the operation and two prison officers injured.

On Monday night, when the prisoners were taken out of the barracks for security reasons, some prisoners attacked the guards, snatched their weapons and escaped by breaking the wall.
