Pakistan desires peaceful and cooperative ties with India: Shehbaz Sharif in response to PM Modi's felicitations

Pakistan's newly sworned-in Prime Minister Shehbaz Shariff on Tuesday thanked Indian PM Narendra Modi after the latter congratulated him. Shehbaz Shariff thanking PM Modi for felicitations desired for peaceful and cooperative ties with India.

On his official Twitter account, Shehbaz in a tweet wrote, "Thank you Premier Narendra Modi for felicitations. Pakistan desires peaceful & cooperative ties with India. Peaceful settlement of outstanding disputes including Jammu & Kashmir is indispensable. Pakistan's sacrifices in fighting terrorism are well-known. Let's secure peace and focus on socio-economic development of our people."

Yesterday, PM Modi congratulating the new prime minister of Pakistan said, "Congratulations to H. E. Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror, so that we can focus on our development challenges and ensure the well-being and prosperity of our people."

Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif took oath as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan on Monday evening hours after being elected by the National Assembly of the country.

Prime Minister-elect Shehbaz Sharif was administered the oath by the Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani after President Arif Alvi fell ill.

Shehbaz Sharif, President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former leader of the Opposition, was elected the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan by the National Assembly of the country earlier today.

"Mian Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif has secured 174 votes," announced PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq, who was chairing the session after the resignation of Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri ahead of the vote.

Meanwhile, the new Pakistan govt will establish contacts with friendly countries following the policy of peace and equality, and trade with these states will be enhanced, Express Tribune reported.

"The new government will raise the Kashmir issue on all international forums," Express Tribune reported.
