Mid-Air Drama Triggers Panic As Unruly Passenger Tries To Open Emergency Door Onboard Madrid-Caracas Flight; Video Goes Viral

Madrid: The drama unfolded mid-air after an unruly passenger attempted to open the emergency door on a flight from Spain's Madrid to Venezuela's Caracas. The incident which took place on February 28 was recorded on camera and its video soon went viral on social media. 

The unruly passenger was stopped by a flight attendant on a Plus Ultra Airlines flight. The man suddenly went to one of the doors of the plane trying to open it. According to a report by New York Post, the Airbus 330 was approximately halfway to the destination when the incident took place.

The “restless” passenger began “annoying the person in the next seat with shouts and slapping him while he was asleep," the flight rep said as quoted by the media house.

Crew members intervened and moved him to another seat where he could not bother other passengers. However, after some time the passenger went up to the emergency hatch and tried to open it. Panic gripped other passengers of the plane as the drama unfolded mid-air. 

In the clip, it could be seen that as the man tried to open the emergency door, the flight attendant immediately restrained him from doing so. Meanwhile, some passengers were seen crying out in shock.  

The unruly passenger was overpowered. His hands were tied after being restrained. “Immediately, our cabin crew subdued the passenger and, following the action protocol, secured him in the back of the plane until he reached the destination,” the Plus Ultra spokesperson said as reported by New York Post. During the remaining journey, the passenger was accompanied by two crew members.

"At all times he was accompanied by two people from the crew, lying on the ground and attended to avoid any possible altercation," the spokesperson added. He was reportedly detained after arrival.

One of the flight attendants sustained injuries.
