A tragic incident has come to light from Italy, a man died after being sucked into an aircraft engine on the taxiway at Milan Bergamo Airport on Tuesday morning. The man ran onto the tarmac and into the path of a Volotea Airbus A319, which was bound for Asturias, Spain, and preparing for take-off.
The man, believed to be around 35 years old, was neither a passenger nor an airport staff member but is said to have been a trespasser who ran onto the runway.
The airline confirmed that a total of 154 passengers were on board, along with six crew members—two pilots and four cabin crew.
Following the tragedy, which occurred at around 10:20 am, operations at one of Italy’s busiest airports were temporarily suspended.
