Kathmandu: A day after clashes erupted in Nepal's Bara district between 'Gen Z' protesters and supporters of the Communist Party of Nepal – Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), a curfew has been imposed in the violence-hit areas. Notably, the KP Sharma Oli's CPN-UML party was overthrown in September this year after the deadly 'Gen Z' protest.

Protesters continued to gather on the streets in Simara city of the district on Thursday morning and even clashed with police. Amid the deteriorating law and order situation in the district, the curfew was imposed from 1 to 8 PM (local Time). Several people were also reportedly injured in the clashes.

Visuals Of The Clashes In Nepal:

The protesters accused the police of failing to arrest the people named in their complaint over the clashes which took place a day before, reported ANI. The police fired teargas canisters after the protest escalated near the Simara Airport.

After six Gen Z protesters were reportedly injured, they filed a complaint against UML cadres over the confrontation that erupted at Simara Chowk.

On Wednesday, the young protesters clashed with CPN-UML cadres in Bara, bordering India's Bihar after CPN-UML leaders planned to come to the district ahead of the election scheduled for March 5, 2026.

Gen Z Uprising IN Nepal In September This Year:

At least 76 people lost their lives during violent protests on September 8 and 9 that brought down former Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli's government. The protests were triggered by the then-Nepal government's ban on social media. The entire agitation was called 'Gen Z' as a large number of youngsters took to the streets against the ruling dispensation.

The protests, primarily led by youth leader Sudan Gurung and Gen Z demonstrators, began over a controversial ban on 26 social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, X, WhatsApp and YouTube, and quickly escalated into a wider uprising against the corruption and misgovernance.

After the Oli government was toppled, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was appointed interim prime minister of the Himalayan nation until March 2026.
