2 Men Beat, Pull Hair & Drag Girl On Kanpur Street; Police Action Follows After Video Of Shocking Act Goes Viral

In broad daylight, a girl was assaulted by two men on the streets of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She was beaten up and left screaming when the two men (identified as Vipul Yadav and Sanjay Nishad) tried to drag her to their house. As she tried to resist their actions, crowd gathered on the road to witness the incident. Some bystanders were seen mercilessly walking away without paying heat to the girl's cries.

Men pull her hair, drag her on street

One of the bystanders who filmed the chilling incident on camera showed how the girl was assaulted on the unsafe roads of the city. The footage captured a man pulling her hair and dragging her on the street, while the other man only the guarded the scene. When few women tried to intervene and stop the fight, this man stopped them by pushing them off.

The incident took place on December 14. In the video, a man was seen pulling the girl's hair and making her scream in pain. The reason behind the assault was unclear, but the girl told the media that they misbehaved with her and were trying to drag her to their residence to make advances in their behavior.

Slapped, punched & kicked

"Unhone mujhe maara aur badtameezi bhi kar rahe the", she said in a video shared by NDTV. The clip mentioned that the girl was kicked, slapped, and punched by the two men while she resisted their monstruous actions.

Police action follows

As the video surfaced online and went viral, the police took note of the incident. The local police also took into account a CCTV footage of a nearby shop which recorded the two men thrashing this girl.

According to reports, Yadav and Nishad have been arrested by the UP police.

In an another incident of assault from Kanpur this month, a minor girl lost her life on Saturday. A 17-year-old Dalit girl was sexually assaulted by a 18-year-old youth who confessed later after his crime. The victim's body was found in a bare-chested state in the presence of "Sex enhancement drugs".

Meanwhile, a 2013 report in the Times of India had stated about Kanpur have "No safe passage for women in the city". While it has been more than a decade since the report was published, these recent incidents raise questions on safety of women in the region.
