Morocco’s Koubaa Mohammed Tarik and India’s Varinder Singh bagged the Seniors + 40 Men’s Doubles title on the second day of the Willingdon Sports Club’s Indian Racketlon Open. It was the only final of the day, the remaining semifinals and finals in all categories will take place on Sunday, the concluding day of the event.
The 44-year-old from Tetovan has dual citizenship and also has a Belgian Passport. He and Singh downed Italy’s Gentile Giovanni and Indian Varun Motasha 20-22, 21-18, 21-10, 10-5 in the final.
Tarik is the current World champion in the +40 category and also the World No.1. He has won the Grand Slam in doubles: singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles.
``This is my second visit to India. I love this country. I won the +40 category at the Bombay Gymkhana event last year,’’ says the affable Moroccan with a smile. He added: ``Hopefully I will add the singles title to my kitty on Sunday.’’
Racketlon comprises four sports: table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis. Each match is played in that order, beginning with TT and ending with tennis. Each discipline is played over 21 points. The player who scores the most points in all 4 sports wins the Racketlon match.
