After Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, Team India and Australia now shift their focus towards the final test match which will be played in Sydney. The match which will begin on January 3rd at the Sydney Cricket ground has significance behind it.
Why is SCG called the Pink test?
The first Test of the year played at the Sydney Cricket Ground is termed as the ‘Pink Test’. The stands and signs around the venue, including the stumps in the middle, during the match will be coloured in pink.
The reason behind behind the Pink Test is to raise more awareness for breast cancer. This was started in 2009 since the time Glenn McGrath’s wife Jane passed away. Australian players who wear the Baggy Green happen to wear pink caps. Jane McGrath passed away in 2005 when Glenn McGrath was an active player.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the SCG Test starting on Friday will raise funds and awareness for people suffering from any form of cancer. The reason behind this move is to help people fighting the disease at the McGrath Cancer Care Nurse.
What is Australia’s record in the Pink Test?
This will be the 17th Pink Test for Australia. So far Australia has 9 wins , drawing seven and losing just one. The only team to beat Australia in the Pink Test is England, in 2011, when it won by an innings and 83 runs. The last time India played at the SCG,the match ended in draw with Australians, missing several missed opportunities on the final day.
