India's star bowler Mohammed Shami is set to make a comeback to the national team after nearly a year, having been sidelined by injuries. The team begins its white-ball series against England today, starting with five T20Is.
The BCCI shared a video of Shami flying a kite and reflecting on his challenging journey over the past year. In the video, he spoke about his 15-year cricket career, emphasising the importance of self-belief and mental strength.
Shami said, “Whether it’s flying a kite, bowling, or driving a car, confidence is key. Even after 15 years, I can fly this kite, so confidence makes any task easier.”

Reflecting on his tough times, Shami highlighted how support fades during hardships. He said, “When you’re performing well, everyone supports you, but tough times reveal who truly stands by you. I waited a year and worked hard despite the fear of running again.”
Shami added that injuries can make players stronger, though it’s tough to recover while in good form. “Rehabilitation at the NCA and making a comeback is challenging, but injuries teach you resilience. If you work hard, you’ll see results. That’s my belief,” he said.
Since his debut in 2013, Shami has played 64 Tests, 101 ODIs, and 23 T20Is, taking 448 wickets, including 11 five-wicket hauls.
