Video: Steve Smith Equals Former Team India Batter, Reaches His 36th Ton In SL vs AUS 2nd Test

Australia's champion batter Steve Smith continues to pile on the hundreds in red-ball cricket as he cracked his 36th hundred on day two of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. The right-handed batter got to the landmark with a boundary by playing a pull shot off Kamindu Mendis' bowling. He has also equalled Rahul Dravid's tally of 36 tons.

The 35-year-old has been on fire since he broke his long-standing century drought in the Brisbane Test against India when he scored his 33rd ton. The former Australian captain brought up his 34th in the Boxing Day Test, followed by his 35th in the previous game in Galle.

The incident on the day two of the second Test came off Kamindu Mendis' bowling as he was sending down the 63rd over of the innings and his second. With Mendis dropping it short, Smith latched on to it and celebrated by kissing his Baggy Green cap in the scorching heat of Galle.

Meanwhile, the tourists ended the day with a boundary as Alex Carey played a leg glance off Lahiru Kumara, reaching 330/3 and gaining a 73-run lead. With Josh Inglis, who scored a hundred in the opening Test, battling a back issue, the management decided to promote Carey. The South Australian made the most of the opportunity, hitting a century off only 118 balls as his partnership with Smith now stands at an unbroken 239.

Earlier on day two, Australia bowled Sri Lanka out for 257 as Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann took three wickets each.
