Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah couldn't control his tears as he was seen leaving the field as the spectators raucously chanted Diogo Jota's name at Anfield after their win over Bournemouth in the Premier League 2025-26 game. Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah couldn't control his tears as he was seen leaving the field as the spectators raucously chanted Diogo Jota's name at Anfield after their win over Bournemouth in the Premier League 2025-26 game. In a video shared by Liverpool on their official X handle as the 33-year-old was seen wiping the tears off his eyes in an emotional moment.
In a tragic day for the sporting fraternity, Liverpool and Portugal striker Jota, along with his brother Andre passed away in a car accident in Spain on July 3, with his brother Andre Silva also losing his life. Renowned sporting personalities and teams across the globe paid tribute to the 28-year-old.

Before the game, a minute's silence was also observed by the players in memory of Jota and Silva.
According to reports that emerged on Thursday, Chelsea football club will donate an equal portion of their prize money of $15.5 million won in FIFA Club World Cup to Jota and Silva's family. Jota, 28, was notably married only for 10 days before his demise.
Premier League 2025 game between Liverpool and Bournemouth marred by alleged racial abuse
Meanwhile, the opening game of the Premier League 2025-26 edition was marred by an alleged racial abuse against Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo. The match had to be temporarily stopped Semenyo reportedly raised the incident. Match referee Anthony Taylor spoken to managers Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola after the game was paused.
The Premier League strongly condemned the alleged incident and vowed a deep investigation into it. Although Bournemouth lost by a commanding margin of 4-2, the two goals for the visiting team came from Semenyo. For Liverpool, Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah netted goals.
