Rishabh Pant departed for 39 after a well-constructed 62-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir was visibly disappointed as Rishabh Pant threw his wicket away on day 1 of the opening Test against Bangladesh at the Chepauk in Chennai. The 42-year-old was seen shaking his head as Pant walked away for 39 in difficult conditions under tough circumstances.

The dismissal occurred in the 26th over of the innings sent down by Hasan Mahmud. Mahmud, who had already picked up three wickets prior to dismissing Pant, had gone for a boundary in the 2nd ball of that over. The left-handed batter attempted a cut shot again, but only managed a toe end as Litton Das took a simple catch.

Meanwhile, the Tigers have been spot on with the ball from the outset as Mahmud got the better of Shubman Gill (0), Rohit Sharma (8), and Virat Kohli (6) within the first hour. Pant's wicket also ensured that the tourists broke the 62-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Along with Pant, Bangladesh also nipped out Jaiswal and KL Rahul in the session before tea, leaving India at 176-6.
