Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has admitted himself to be a Proud Hindu and a nationalist as he said so during an interaction with journalist Manak Gupta of News24. Raina revealed that playing for India gave him a different feeling and urged every Indian to take pride at being born in this country.

"Bilkul India ke liye khela hoon aur national anthem jab chalta hai school mein seekha hai saare, yeh sab bachpan se padhe hain woh. Desh ke liye khelein toh andar se aata hai. Jitne bhi Indian army ke movies dekhte hain, dost se baatein karte hain. Toh aisa lagta hai har ek Hindustani ko woh hona chahiye aur us parivaar ko jo desh ke liye karte hain. Har bande ko hona chahiye kyunki jis dharti pe janam liya, us dharti pe jaayenge toh, you need to give it back."

"Muslim log bhi accha kaam kar rahe hain. Hum Hindu hain aur hum itne saal saath mein khelte hain. Mujhe nahin lagta ki yeh desh kuch alag usme badh raha hai. Sabko apna apna religion pyaara hota hai."

(Surely, because I have played for India and the national anthem is something we've been taught in school. Whenever I watch a movie on the Indian army, it gives me a different feeling. Every Indian should be proud, especially if they belong to an army family.)

When asked by the host about some potential conflict between Hindus and Muslims, the retired cricketer said:

(Muslims are also doing good work and both the communities are staying together for decades now. I don't think our country is moving in some different direction. People love their own religion.)
