The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to undergo a major leadership change in the coming months, with current president Roger Binny nearing the official age limit for holding office. Binny, who turns 70 on July 19, 2025, will have to vacate his position in accordance with BCCI's constitution, which mandates that no official can continue in office beyond the age of 70.
Multiple media outlets citing Cricblogger have reported that BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla is emerging as the frontrunner. According to media reports, Shukla is being considered to step in as the interim president following Binny’s exit.
A veteran of cricket administration, Shukla has been involved with the BCCI for years and previously served as chairman of the Indian Premier League. His background as a journalist and politician adds to his credentials, making him a strong candidate for the top post.
Shukla, who assumed office as vice president on December 24, 2020, fits that criteria and has remained an influential voice in board matters. The source while speaking to the website said,“Shukla, who currently serves as BCCI vice-president, is a veteran cricket administrator and seasoned politician with prior experience as chairman of IPL,”
The official announcement is expected closer to Binny’s birthday (19 July), but if all goes according to plan, Shukla will be at the helm of BCCI affairs this July, at least in an interim capacity.
