Former Team England skipper Jos Buttler has penned an emotional post on his Instagram handle after stepping down as England skipper following a disastrous Champions Trophy outing. England made exit from group stage after losing all three matches.
Buttler in his social media post thanked the team support staff and his wife, Louise, for the support. He wrote, "It’s with great sadness that I have decided to step down as England white ball captain. Leading your country is an immense honour and something I have and always will be very proud to have done. The results are clear and obvious and it is the right time for me and the team to make this decision."

He added,"I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all the players, staff and England fans who have supported me throughout my time as captain but most importantly I would like to thank my wife Louise and my family. You have been unwavering pillars of support throughout the highs and lows of the job and I cannot thank you enough onto the next chapter …".
England under Jos Buttler's captaincy
Buttler was appointed as Eoin Morgan's successor in June 2022 and won the T20 World Cup in Australia later that year. But England's results have declined sharply since and after three unsuccessful ICC events in a row. Buttler's position came under increasing scrutiny after a sustained poor run of ODI form for England stretching back to the start of the 2023 World Cup.
In defence of their World Cup title, England won just three group games out of nine and were the first team to be officially eliminated from the tournament. They then crashed out at the semifinal stage in the defence of their T20 crown, losing convincingly to India in Guyana.
