The much-anticipated IPL 2025 encounter between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders was unfortunately abandoned due to persistent rain at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on April 26, 2025. The match, scheduled for a 7:30 PM start, showed flashes of excitement before the weather intervened.
Punjab Kings posted an imposing total of 201/4 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was powered by stellar performances from their openers. Prabhsimran Singh led the charge with a commanding 83 runs off just 49 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and six towering sixes. His aggressive stroke play set the tone early for Punjab Kings. Supporting him brilliantly was Priyansh Arya, who hammered 69 runs off only 35 balls, smashing eight boundaries and four sixes to maintain a brisk scoring rate. Together, the opening pair laid a solid foundation, thrilling the Eden Gardens crowd with a flurry of boundaries.
Among the KKR bowlers, Vaibhav Arora emerged as the standout performer. He kept the Punjab batters in check during crucial phases of the innings, finishing with figures of 2 for 34 in his four overs.
In response, Kolkata Knight Riders had just begun their innings when the rain came down heavily. They reached 7/0 after 1 over, with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (1* off 3 balls) and Sunil Narine (4* off 3 balls) at the crease.
Despite a strong batting effort from Punjab Kings and an exciting start to the chase, the persistent rain left the umpires with no choice but to call off the match, resulting in both teams sharing points.
