Jaiveer Mahendru Takes Sole Lead; Pratitee Bordoloi And Leyla Share Girls Lead In Asian Junior Chess
FM Jaiveer Mahendru became the sole leader of the Asian Junior Open Classical Chess Championship after defeating IM Aaditya Dhingra in round four to reach 4/4. In the Girls Championship, WFM Pratitee Bordoloi and WCM Shohradova Leyla shared the lead with perfect scores.

Mumbai, August 21, 2026: FM Jaiveer Mahendru emerged the sole leader of the Asian Junior Open Classical Chess Championship after a stunning victory over International Master Aaditya Dhingra in the fourth round at the ITC Maratha Sheraton, Mumbai.
Jaiveer, rated 2326, upset the higher-rated Dhingra (2403) to maintain a perfect score of 4/4. He is now half a point ahead of a strong group of four players comprising top seed IM Mayank Chakraborty of India, IM Artem Pingin of Russia, FM Amanmuhammet Hommadov of Turkmenistan and FM Sharnarthi Viresh of India, who are all on 3.5/4.
Jaiveer Takes Sole Lead
Guru Prakash, rated 2113, continued his dream run in the championship, punching above his weight by holding FM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (2363) to a draw.
Girls Share Top Spot
The Girls Championship also witnessed an exciting fourth round with top seed WFM Pratitee Bordoloi of India defeating Shivamshika G to maintain her perfect score of 4/4. She was joined at the top by WCM Shohradova Leyla of Turkmenistan, who defeated the previously unbeaten Pranavasri S.

WFM Mariya Kholyavko of Kazakhstan and FM Prishita Gupta of India remained in close pursuit after scoring important victories over WFM Nivedita V C and WCM Akshaya Sathi respectively. Both moved to 3.5/4 and are just half a point behind the joint leaders.
