Punjab Kings (PBKS), formerly known as Kings XI Punjab, is one of the few IPL franchises who are yet to win the title and have massively underperformed since reaching the final in 2014. Since finishing as the runners-up of the 2014 edition when they lost a close bout to the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Punjab-based franchise haven't reached the top four. Hence, the pressure is massive on them.

With a rebranded squad and a new coach in Ricky Ponting, Punjab will hope to go all the way and repay their fans and owners' faith. Shreyas Iyer, who ushered the Knight Riders to glory and their third title, will lead the franchise this year after fetching ₹26.75 crore from them. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was brought for ₹18 crore, will be equally under pressure to deliver this season.

The only other season where Punjab made it to the top four was in 2008

What is the ticket prices for home games of Punjab Kings in IPL 2025?

So far, tickets for only two home matches of PBKS have been released or gone live. The starting price for both games against Rajasthan Royals (April 5) and Kolkata Knight Riders (April 15) is ₹1750. Fans can visit district.in to book the tickets and the games will be hosted by Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur.

"It is a team that hasn't had a lot of success over a long period of time" - Ricky Ponting

When asked what prompted him to coach Punjab Kings, the Tasmanian said their lack of success made him see it as a challenge and hopes to help them lift the trophy. During an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, he stated:

"Yes, I was talking to a few teams, but it was "Project Punjab" which attracted me. It is a team that hasn't had a lot of success over a long period of time, a team that's changed coaches a lot, so I saw it as a challenge. The other exciting part is that I saw some really exciting youngsters last year at Kings that hopefully we can attract back to the team for this season and put together a team that is going to be good enough to win the IPL."
