Delhi Capitals' Axar Patel gave a hilarious answer to the commentator when asked about where they lost the match after the defeat against the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 on Sunday. The spin-bowling all-rounder said 'Mumbai ke paas' as a video of the same emerged on social media following the match.
Mumbai ended Delhi's four-match winning streak as they sneaked a 12-run victory at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. Left to chase down 206, the Karun Nair spearheaded the home side's run-chase with a blistering 40-ball 89. However, the five-time champions held their nerves in the end, affecting three consecutive run-outs to bowl the Capitals out for 193.
Deep Dasgupta asked Axar:
"Axar apke hisaab se match kaha pe gaya" (Axar, where did you think Delhi lost the match?)
The 31-year-old hilariously replied:
"Mumbai ke paas" (It went to Mumbai)
"If we had caught better, we'd have kept them to lower" - Axar Patel
Having fallen short only 12 runs in the end, Axar felt their top-order batters need to do more in the upcoming matches as the lower-order cannot always bail them out. Having said that, the southpaw feels it's futile to ponder much on the defeat, given the difference was only 12.
"We had the game. I think we had soft dismissals from the middle order, some bad shots. We lost by 12 runs with an over to go so we could have still won it. It can't happen that your lower order batters will always come save you in chases. There are some odd days where you play wrong shots, so I don't think there is any point in thinking too much about it. I thought 205 was a great target because it was a good pitch and dew was also coming. Maybe if we had caught better, we'd have kept them to lower."
