Axar Patel's chance of becoming the first Indian to take hattrick in Champions Trophy 2025 ended in agony after skipper Rohit Sharma dropped a simple chance in the first slip. The moment came in the ninth over when Axar dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim in consecutive deliveries. Axar then bowled a flighted delivery to Jakir Ali, drawing an outside edge that went straight to Rohit Sharma who failed to latch onto the catch.
The skipper pounded his hand on the turf in frustration and apologised to Axar patel. Axar found the edge of Ali's bat which went straight to Rohit at an ideal height. Axar’s twin strikes reduced Bangladesh to 35 for five after Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana combined to take the first three wickets.

Opener Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim and skipper Najmul Hasan Shanto were dismissed for duicks, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz was dismissed for 5 runs by Shami.
