Harsh Singh Bags Gold Medal At Commonwealth Games 2026 In Glasgow

India's Harsh Singh scripted history by becoming the country's first male judoka to win a Commonwealth Games gold. The 23-year-old stunned Australia's experienced Joshua Katz in the men's -60kg final on Friday. Competing in his maiden Commonwealth Games, Harsh claimed the biggest title of his career with a composed display.

The final remained evenly poised for most of the bout, with neither judoka able to gain a decisive edge. Harsh broke the deadlock with a superb waza-ari, the second-highest scoring move in judo, with just 41 seconds left on the clock. He then defended resolutely to seal a memorable victory.

The result came as a major upset, with Katz entering the final as the overwhelming favourite. The Australian Olympian is a multiple-time Oceania champion, several-time national champion and bronze medallist from the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Harsh, however, stayed calm under pressure and executed his tactics to perfection.

Katz also comes from a celebrated judo family, with both his parents being former judokas. His father has also served as Australia's national judo coach at the Olympic Games. Harsh's victory not only marked the biggest achievement of his career but also gave India its second judo gold of the day.
