Pakistan cricket Board (PCB) found itself under scrutiny once again after a shocking incident at Gaddafi Stadium, where New Zealand’s young all-rounder Rachin Ravindra sustained a serious facial injury due to inadequate floodlighting. The frightening episode occurred during the first match of the tri-series against Pakistan, leaving Ravindra bloodied and shaken.

The incident took place in the 38th over of Pakistan’s innings when Khushdil Shah launched a high pull shot into the night sky. Positioned at deep backward square leg, Ravindra attempted to take the catch but lost sight of the ball in the glare of the stadium lights. In a horrifying turn of events, the ball struck him directly on the forehead, sending him crashing to the ground.

As blood poured from the wound, teammates and medical personnel rushed to assist him. Fortunately, New Zealand Cricket later confirmed that Ravindra had received immediate treatment and passed the initial concussion test.

However, the injury has reignited concerns about the poor lighting conditions at one of Pakistan’s premier cricket venues, which has been criticized by players in the past for making aerial catches particularly challenging.

With Pakistan set to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, this alarming incident has raised serious questions about whether the stadium meets international safety standards.

New Zealand beat Pakistan

New Zealand put on a commanding performance, securing a comprehensive 78-run victory over Pakistan. The Black Caps posted an imposing total of 330/6 in 50 overs, thanks to stellar contributions from Glenn Phillips, Kane Williamson, and Daryl Mitchell.

Before his unfortunate injury, Ravindra had played a brisk knock of 25 off 19 balls, further showcasing his talent.

In response, Pakistan crumbled under scoreboard pressure, folding for 252 in 47.5 overs. Fakhar Zaman top-scored with 84, but a lack of middle-order support proved costly.
