Amdavad, the city formerly and often also referred to as Ahmedabad, has been officially confirmed as the host of the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games, marking a landmark moment for both India and the broader Commonwealth sporting community.
The confirmation came during the 2025 General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport, when delegates from the 74 member nations and territories ratified India’s bid for the centenary edition.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended "congratulations "to every citizen" as India won the prestigious bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.
"This is a testament to PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision for turning our Bharat into a global sports hotspot. Through penance spanning over a decade, Modi Ji has developed world-class sports infrastructure and uplifted our nation’s potential through effective governance and seamless teamwork," he added.
"It is a prestigious moment that India will host the centenary Commonwealth Games," Mandaviya said here.
"India is capable of hosting major events and will be among the top-five sporting nations by 2047," he added.
For India, this is more than just hosting a sporting event. With past experience from the 2010 Games in Delhi, the country now has a chance to showcase its matured capacity to host global events, to spotlight its cultural vibrancy, and to catalyze sports infrastructure and youth participation across the nation.
Looking ahead, the build-up to 2030 promises to be transformative: from planning a world-class sports program to constructing and upgrading venues, welcoming athletes from across the Commonwealth, and staging celebrations that highlight India’s diversity.
