Australia, led by Pat Cummins, did their absolute best to produce a result in their favour but rain had the final say on day five of the third Test against India at the Gabba. With 275 set for India to chase, India played out 2.1 overs for being 8/0 before rain arrived and the stakeholders abandoned the game.
Australia have dangled the carrot on India as the batters dazzled away, keeping in mind the heavy rain forecast at the Gabba in Brisbane on day five. Australian captain Pat Cummins led the way with the bat, hammering 22 runs off only 10 deliveries with two fours and as many sixes and declared at 89/7 with a 275-run lead.
Australia finally managed to extract the last Indian wicket within half an hour on day five at the Gabba, taking a lead of 185 runs. However, rain returned to interrupt the proceedings, delaying the start of the Australian innings.
An exciting day five looms for the viewers and fans as India and Australia battle it out at the Gabba in Brisbane. The visitors successfully avoided the follow-on to ensure that Australia will bat again in this Test as Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah will walk out on day five to resume their partnership.
While India are still 193 runs behind, landing a psychological blow on the hosts would have equally helped their cause. With showers also predicted on day five, India hold all the aces and have a genuine chance of drawing the game and going to the MCG with 1-1.
