Pune: Who Is Pankaj Deore? All You Need To Know PMPML's New CMD

Pankaj Deore has been appointed as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML).

The current CMD, Deepa Mudhol Munde, has been transferred and posted as the Commissioner of the Social Welfare Department in Pune. She was appointed as PMPML's CMD on July 8 last year. She joins the long list of PMPML CMDs who have not been able to complete their full term of three years.

Sanjay Kolte, who was the CMD before Munde, served for eight months. Before him, Sachindra Pratap Singh held the post for only three months.

Reportedly, since 2007, PMPML has seen over 20 CMDs. However, only RN Joshi, who was CMD during 2012, completed the full tenure of the post.

According to residents, the frequent transfers of CMDs are impacting progress, and projects are slowing down. According to activists, several important projects — including tracking buses in real-time, increasing the transport body’s share in the overall passenger traffic of the city, and improving the situation of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) — are still in progress.

This will be Deore's first assignment as an IAS officer, as he was recently promoted to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Previously, he served as the Chairman of the Caste Verification Committee in Latur district.

Deore is the husband of Pranita Chikhalikar Deore, who is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha Vice President of Maharashtra. She is the daughter of Prataprao Patil Chikhalikar, an NCP MLA from the Loha Assembly constituency in Nanded district. He was also elected as an MP in 2019 from Nanded on a BJP ticket.
