Pune is experiencing cloudy skies for the last few days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this trend is likely to continue for the next seven days. This comes after the city experienced intense heat throughout March, with temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius multiple times.
Meanwhile, Punekars are heaving a sigh of relief as they have got a respite from the heat. "Looks like Pune climate has skipped April and May and time travelled to June and July...," a user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "Such perfect rainy weather today," a Reddit user shared. "Same in Mumbai," another user commented on Reddit.
Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather forecasting, IMD, said Pune could experience rain, lightning and even hailstorms. "High temperature and moisture incursion in Maharashtra resulted in atmospheric instability, and thus, cumulonimbus clouds could be formed, especially in the afternoon hours. Short spells of intense rains are likely," Kashyapi said.
Meanwhile, Vineet Kumar, research scientist, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, shared on X, "Good thunderstorm expected tomorrow, exact area cannot be told as of now, however chances are high for east Pune side to get good thunderstorm."
