Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has urged the traffic police and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to avoid frequent diversions of buses from key routes, such as Shivaji Road and Bajirao Road, which cause inconvenience to commuters.
In a letter sent on Monday, PMPML said these two roads are among the most important transport corridors in the city. Many bus routes pass through them and connect different parts of Pune. Frequent diversions, especially on weekends, are disrupting this network.
Officials said buses are often rerouted due to traffic management changes, events, or road-related works. However, these repeated changes are affecting the reliability of public transport. Commuters are forced to deal with delays, longer travel times and confusion over altered routes.
Students, office workers, and daily commuters are among the affected. Many buses are diverted through unfamiliar or longer stretches, making travel more difficult and time-consuming.
PMPML has pointed out that while such diversions may be necessary at times, they are happening too often. The transport body has asked authorities to plan better and reduce unnecessary changes so that bus services remain smooth and predictable for the public.
The issue has once again highlighted the need for better coordination between civic bodies and transport services to ensure that passengers do not face repeated disruptions in their daily commute.
