Pune MPSC Aspirants' Protest Leads To Postponement Of State Services Main Exam 2024

In a big success to the protests held by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants in Pune along with a few other places in Maharashtra, the Commission has decided to postpone the State Services Main Examination 2024. Originally scheduled for the last week of April, the examination will now be conducted from May 27 to May 29, 2025.

The MPSC has acknowledged the exceptional circumstances surrounding the reservation adjustments and granted this one-time extension to ensure fair opportunities for all aspirants. All other terms and conditions, as mentioned in the earlier notifications, remain unchanged.

Several MPSC aspirants in Pune who were disappointed over irregularities in the MPSC preliminary examination results, had alleged a lack of transparency in the selection process. Thousands of students staged a protest near the Pune district collectorate on Wednesday, expressing dissatisfaction with MPSC's decisions.

They had demanded the reinstatement of original Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) vacancies and postponement of the upcoming MPSC State Services Mains Exam.

Aspirants alleged that despite scoring above the declared cut-off, they were not included in the merit list, prompting the demand to postpone the examination. They also called for an increase in the number of Police Sub Inspector posts.

The Rajyaseva Preliminary Exam was held on December 1, 2024, with the results announced on March 12. Aspirants further alleged that, during the selection process, despite the SEBC (Socially and Educationally Backward Class) reservation being applicable to the Maratha community, some Maratha candidates were mistakenly listed under the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) category. This led to many original EWS candidates being disqualified, thus denying them the opportunity to appear for the main examination.

Last week, more than 4,000 students staged a protest near Faras Khana police station at night, highlighting the inconvenience they faced due to MPSC's decision.
